Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer was the first Roberts to settle in Atlanta. Early on, her father was interested in theatre. He performed on at the Emory University campus in 1952 and also in a variety of productions around Atlanta. He joined the air force in 1953. While being stationed at Biloxi Mississippi, he was a part of an army production that featured Betty Lou Bredemus who was part of the Air force. The couple got married in the year 1955. Their first baby son Eric Anthony, was born in the year 1956. Walter attended Tulane University New Orleans Louisiana after he left the Airforce in the year 1957. Walter began his work at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. The year 1964 was when Walter as well as Betty Lou began production on a local children's Saturday morning television show known as Bum Bum and His Buddies that they funded on their own. The Actors and Writers Workshop was created in the year 1964 and ran for six years. In the meantime, they also had two children Lelisa (called Lisa) Billingsley in the year 1965, and Julia (called Julie) in 1967.
